Shiraz Late Picked
Rich ripe fruit flavor is something that every Hazyblur wine has in spades. However, this wine has it in truckloads! Hazyblur’s Late Picked Shiraz is unique in the Grateful Palate portfolio. It’s vinified in an Amarone style; thick, rich, viscous, but with a dry finish. In palate weight and alcohol, it’s somewhere between a table wine and a vintage port. The nose displays rose petals and subtle oak; while on the palate you’ll pick up blackberry, raspberry and chocolate.

The fruit for this wine was sourced from a low-yielding Shiraz vineyard in Baroota, the northernmost grape-growing district in South Australia. The soil is a dark, heavy, stony loam. The vineyard is a young one (the vines are only a couple of years old) which winemaker Ross Trimboli feels is an advantage: the younger vines provide fruit with a lighter, more elegant character. After fermentation for 7 days, the wine was put into new light-toast American Hogsheads and allowed to ferment to dryness. Malolactic fermentation was induced and 4 weeks later the wine was racked of gross lees and adjusted. The wine exudes a lively bouquet, complex yet complete, with abundant fruit richness. The palate is fruit driven showing a subtle underlay of vanillin oak and a soft fine-grained finish.
