Riesling
Vines are 22 years old, producing on average 2.5 tonnes per acre. The vines are planted in shallow loam soil over ancient sandstone. The Ashton Hills Vineyard is in the heart of the Adelaide Hills and lies just below the summit of Mt. Lofty on a ridge top overlooking the Piccadilly Valley. Cool and mild temperatures. Grapes harvested in mid-April (late by Australian standards). A very pure manifestation of Riesling, with its crisp lime, blossom and mineral aromas. Tightly structured, intense and long on the palate.

The style of the Ashton Hills wines is mystery and nuance, yet with a bold and seductive power behind them. When compared to many of the other wines imported by The Grateful Palate, the Ashton Hills wines might be considered esoteric, exotic and pushing the flavor envelope. They are wines that will give one great pleasure to drink over many years, but more like a French wine rather than in an Australian style.
