CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Majella’s Cabernet Sauvignon continues to set an example of classic Coonawarra Cabernet. It is the most widely planted varietal in Coonawarra, a wine region to the south-east of South Australia famous for its limestone-rich terra rosa soil.

Majella’s Cabernet is very highly regarded in its home country, having won the prestigious Stoddart Trophy for Best Young Red two years in a row (2001 and 2000 vintages) – the only wine to have been awarded the trophy two years’ running.

The wine has a wonderful deep magenta color with a rich nose, slightly herbaceous with a hint of capsicum. The palate is true Coonawarra Cabernet, rich and complex and displaying blackberries, black fruits and hints of plum and olive.

The Cabernet vines are between 15 and 30 years old, and yield on average 3 tonnes per acre. The wine was barrel fermented, and then aged for 22 months in French oak hogsheads (300 liter barrels).

Winemaker Bruce Gregory spends a lot of his time at vintage working on tannins, and the fruits of his labor stand out in his wine. Lovely French-style ‘chalky’ tannins dominate the finish, which is exceptionally long.
