Ashton Hills is in the relatively cool hills above Adelaide, in South Australia. Winemaker Stephen George sources all his grapes locally, mostly from his own vines planted in the early 1980s in shallow loam over ancient sandstone. His Estate and Reserve Pinot Noirs are made of a selection of 15 clones of that varietal and spend nine months in French oak. Both the Pinot Noirs and the Ashton Hills Riesling are produced in modest quantities, 200 cases for the Pinots, 325 for the Riesling.
